Activity Spot by Frolyc is an app truly taking advantage of the flipped model and blended model of learning. There are ready to assign activities, such as how ice houses were made, incorporating a lovely combination of text and video. I really like the use of primary and secondary sources in the video, as well as the cites at the end of the video for further research. The activity catalog is wonderful and searches can be searched by grade and keywords. Once an activity is chosen it can be published to the iPad. Each activity mentions the author, grade, subject, lexile levels, standards addressed, and a picture for reference. There is a menu given showing what is on each particular page. Teachers will love the ability to create their own lessons, assign students and collect data on student responses. There are several excellent videos on the Frolyc website on how to create lessons, use Frolyc, and ideas to implement with common core.
Teachers are busy and to be able to have ready-to-go activities, knowing they’re reaching standards, is invaluable. When a student is assigned a math lesson for example, an activity may be solving a math problem. But, it also includes dragging sums to answers, taking advantage of some of the new ways of showing what you know on the new upcoming tests. I expect great things from Frolyc. Whether you use premade lessons or design your own, this app is a great resource for teachers and can provide enrichment for students at home. Download Frolyc for FREE in the App Store today.
