Archie’s Ancient Egyptian Adventure, by Daren Mason and Muddy Boots Media, is a recent release. This time traveling app is part book, part game, and all around great fun! So, here is the low down on Archie – he is a busy time traveler and with each artifact he find, he is off on another adventure back in time to reconnect the artifact with the owner. Best part, you get to go along with him as he goes deeper and deeper back in time. Due to Archie’s magic digging boots whenever he finds something quite amazing he is transported back in time to meet the original owner of the artifact.
First find, Howard Carter’s book and after a several spins Archie finds himself in Egypt in the year 1922. Howard is in pursuit of the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamen and he asks Archie to join him since he’s a whiz at finding things. (As you may or may not know, no one has furthered the interests of Egyptology and the world’s archaeological focus on Egypt more than Howard Carter. He discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun.)
Get ready for some action as Archie finds another artifact and is off once again. Now it is 1323 BC and Archie gets a firsthand lesson in mummification from the chief embalmer after he saves the day with his second find, a golden hook. And so it goes, a six step process of how to prepare the body, which includes lots of engaging interactivity throughout, finishing with hundreds of meters of linen to wrap the body. The last step in the process teaches all about the different containers the mummy is placed in before it reaches the final sarcophagus. We don’t want to give the crown jewels away, go and get this app to find out what happens next. Let’s just say, you won’t be disappointed in the least.
The children we shared this story app with were entertained while being given a dose of history. Each had a different favorite part and one wondered aloud if Archie would be visiting other destinations in another back in time story. We can only hope! This app is great way to mix non-fiction with adventures and obviously the possibilities are endless! We would love to see a short fact sheet at the end. Certainly not a must have, it’s just we can’t help ourselves, we’re teachers…
Archie Potts stories are aimed at children young and old, introducing them to historic figures and events in a fun and interactive way.
