Measurement HD, by Emantras’ Punflay – This app comes with five activities that each teach a measurement concept:
Crazy Clock is a great introduction to time.
Scale Tale features an adorable one-eyed monster that teaches kids the concept of heavier and lighter by holding two items and allowing them to guess which item is heavier or lighter.
Fill Me Up teaches the concept of volume with fun, easy exercises such as filling pitchers with liquids or jars with cookies. Great learning minus the mess!
Long & Short presents two objects of different lengths. Children are asked to tap on the one that is longer or shorter.
Action Months introduces the basics of the duration of time through a simple drag and drop activity to fill in the letters of the months. Kindergarteners can practice the names of the months and get ready for more sophisticated concepts of time in higher grades.
In a nutshell, early learners are introduced to the basic concepts of measurement such as weight, volume, and length, set in an utterly cute learning environment. Measurement HD definitely keeps a child’s attention with its bright and cheerful graphics and fun activities. In addition, Measurement HD was developed in keeping with the National and California Standards for kindergarteners but it’s also great for the pre-K and ESL populations.
Oops, almost forgot! There’s also a rewards section called My Stuff. Kids love rewards and they will love seeing their stash of rewards grow each time they add points by answering the activity questions correctly.
