Tab, the White Bat, by Joy Tales, is a wonderful book that teaches many skills. Tab is a lonely baby bat who is different than other bats because of his color. This sets up the enduring story of how being different leads to sadness and teasing. There is a wonderful ending that leaves kids begging to read every night. Many different options make this more than just a storybook. Read facts about bats. Choose the child option, with the story read with just pictures and animations. Kids can bookmark their favorite part. Choose the family option to use the microphone to record you or your child’s voice reading or choose the read to me option. The story can also be played and paused for natural discussion about the issue of being different. There is also a play option to practice coloring, counting, and memory matching that includes several different levels. I loved the coloring option, as there was a level for younger kids to simply swipe over and color Tab versus picking individual colors to use.
Settings include the choice of music sounds and microphone. This book is available in English, Dutch, Spanish, and Italian. Very few books today teach morals and have a positive message. This is a book I love sharing with my grandchildren and you will too. Get your copy for( $1.99) in the App Store.
