Wish for a Fish (Dr. Seuss/Cat in the Hat), by Oceanhouse Media, was a real eye-opener for this review team and we live right on the Atlantic Ocean! We learned so much, we’re sure kids from any shore to shining sea and landlocked areas in between, will definitely benefit from all the teaching going on in this book. Originally envisioning this would be a take on McGilligot’s Pool, an all-time favorite and not so well known book of the acclaimed author, Wish for a Fish was a surprising delight. Not only is this tale comprised of the usual Seuss fun, antics and rhyme, it is also chock full of learning about the ocean and sea life. Did you know that the deepest sea level is called an Abyss?
The book begins by introducing the sunny surface waters and takes the reader to the deepest ocean trenches finding incredible marine creatures at each level! Loads of new vocabulary and fish species to take in and explore. The children we shared the story with were mesmerized and took their time going from page to page. The option to personalize the story with your own narration is a great feature for building reading comprehension as well as confidence.
