The TestFlight app allows you to install and beta test apps on your iOS device. TestFlight also allows you to provide valuable feedback to developers on the features you are testing in the prerelease version. Beta testing with TestFlight can be incredibly rewarding and a real boon to the educational app developer sector.
The TestFlight app went through an update last fall and it makes installing beta apps extremely easy. Prior, to this you needed to provide UDID’s or provisioning profiles to the developer, now the dev simply sends you an email invite and you open it in the TestFlight app.
More and more educational developers understand the importance of getting feedback from educators. If you are interested in participating in any kind of beta testing you can easily get involved by joining forums, chats, and other groups.
- Upon installation of a beta app a tiny orange dot appears on the left-hand side of the apps name
- TestFlight will inform you each time a new build is offered and provide directions on what to focus on
- You can offer feedback by tapping the Provide Feedback button in the App Details view in TestFlight
The beta period lasts for 30 days, starting on the day it is released to testers. In TestFlight, the number of days remaining appears below the Open button for each app. There are several services that can also help out not just the developers but individuals who wish to partake in beta testing.
