200x20000bbBitsboard Pro – The Best Educational Learning Games and Flash Cards in 1 App by Innovative Investments Limited is a beautifully crafted app that expands on the traditional use of flashcards by making them customizable and motivating to play, through the use of multiple mini-games. The app is filled with downloadable “boards” and/or classes covering a multitude of topics made by the Bitsboard staff, teachers, ABA practitioners, and parents. In turn, each board can be added to, combined, and/or tweaked for “just the right personalized touch” and amount of information.
Once a board is created, mini-games can then be selected for each board and adjusted to generalize information and aid in retention of the subject matter by making it variable. Here, educators can target and tailor learning precisely from the length of time played to how many choices are presented. Bitsboard is perfect for visual learners, or subject matter that requires repetition…identification of people, places or things or other particulars of speech…learning languages, making games for spelling lists…the arts and sciences – wish I would have had this for learning the muscles in Anatomy! Really, the list is only limited by your imagination.

On opening – register and then add students. Bitsboard makes it easy to add students and switch between them. Boards are transportable and can be shared with others who own the app, so team members are consistent in approach and with educational content. Please, please read the tutorials. They cover everything from set-up to personalizing boards and the interface for each individual child. Some children can only handle one board or one picture at a time. Teachers can also create boards or decks by selecting suggested photos, personalized photos, video, or audio clips on ANY subject that comes to mind; i.e. If working on identifying classmates, start with the child, and then gradually add in the teacher and their classmates. By having the options for each of the mini-games in settings, children are successful, and with each subsequent accomplishment, it helps springboard a child to the next level of learning.

The games are what make Bitsboard rock, and what sustains motivation for learning. Clearly a lot of thought and effort went into these games. Not every game is appropriate for every topic, and you may want to play around with what can be used for what subject matter. I counted 29 games to choose from, and here are just a few:

  • Traditional Flashcards
  • Photo Touch
  • Memory Cards
  • Word Builder
  • Spelling Bee
  • BINGO
  • Letter Tracing game
  • Sequencing game
  • Word Search game
  • Crosswords game

Play can be pursued through touch/swipe selection, use of a stylus or Switch use. What I love about Bitsboard is its adaptability, ease of use, but most of all – and this is not mentioned often – infection control. With an iPad, it can be cleaned and sanitized between users. In addition, hours of manpower are not lost by photocopying and laminating pictures that either end up damaged, chewed on, or taken to who knows where?

Data collection is a snap as Bitsboard Pro collects data on every answer for every game. Teachers and other educators are able to
instantly review the progress for each student and identify problem areas or missed questions. It automatically adapts to a child’s ability to progress via a personalized algorithm and choices for reinforcers for task completion – from stickers for little ones to auditory reinforcement all add to this already outstanding package. There is a premium catalog available with monthly additions of new content for a minimal subscription fee. Bitsboard is a Top Pick for its ease of use, portability, and clean interface… especially for kids that are more derailed by visual and auditory clutter.
