Drawing With Leo reveals to kids the secrets that cartoonists have used for decades to create lively, imaginative drawings of cartoon characters. Beginning with the face of a bunny rabbit, kids discover that every drawing is the result of a logical, additive process. By showing how the finished drawing is constructed from a series of simpler drawings, Leo provides the key to unlock the creativity of each child. An expert drawing of a curious elephant is like a magic trick; the magician/artist has created an illusion, and the audience/young artist cannot figure out how it was done. Drawing With Leo is the ideal app for kids who want to amaze with art magic of their own.
For example, the first drawing album begins with how to draw the face of a happy bunny. The first step is drawing two ears, and step two adds the head. Third is the nose, and fourth are the whiskers. The fifth step adds the eyes, sixth is the smile, and last are the bunny’s teeth. From here, the second project demonstrates in 12 steps how to draw a complete bunny, including its body, arms, legs, and carrot.
The app features both humorous, written instructions with illustrations as well as a speedy, fast-motion animation of Leo executing each step to create a finished drawing. After Leo has finished, kids can touch a button to begin drawing. The finished drawing disappears, and in its place is a just step one, which appears as a thin, broken line to guide the student. Kids can select any colored pencil and any thickness to trace over the guideline. The app includes unlimited undos to step backward and an eraser to remove unwanted lines. When they are satisfied, kids touch a button, Leo draws step two at normal speed, which dissolves and leaves behind another broken guideline. Results are spectacular, well worth saving and sharing.
“‘Mom, can you draw a cat?’ or ‘Dad, draw an elephant please!’ – but what do you do if you don’t know how to draw?!” asked Alexander Chernyshev of AppKey. “Leo the pencil will teach you and your children how to draw a giraffe, a bunny, a snail or a wolf in less than a minute, step by step. Just follow Leo and you’ll find out how to draw funny animals quickly and easily, on screen or on paper.”
