Most teachers are well aware of the legendary BrainPOP website which has no shortage of wonderful content for the classroom, but did you know that educational learning games have been added to their repertoire? GameUp is a wonderful 21st century supplement to the already impressive BrainPOP collection of videos, quizzes, activities, and lesson plans covering a plethora of topics from your basic math, science, social studies, and ELA, all the way to arts & music, health, and technology. There is literally something for everyone!
GameUp is a FREE resource that comes with lesson plans for easy implementation, is aligned to academic standards, and has dozens of games by various publishers. It is a win-win for both teachers and students. Great for introducing “gaming” as a serious tool and has versatile uses in traditional, flipped, or tech driven classrooms.
GameUp was released several years ago at the ISTE conference and it has taken me this long to get around to writing about it. (Incidentally for those of you who may not have noticed we’ve added this additional page on our site, which is aptly named: Teacher Tools). Seriously teachers, if stranded on a desert island what one resource would you want most? BrainPOP of course, they have it all!
“One of our main priorities at BrainPOP is to create resources that bridge the knowledge gap for students and make it easier for teachers to achieve their goals in the classroom,” said Avraham Kadar, M.D., Founder and CEO of BrainPOP. “It has been a hugely fulfilling journey to partner with this phenomenal group of developers and creators. We are thrilled to join forces in introducing games in a safe and trusted environment for learning in school and at home.”
