Kidonkadonk is proud to announce the availability of Say It Sight Words 2.0 for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. Children are taught to read using a combination of phonics and high-frequency word (often called a “sight word”) memorization. Say It Sight Words is a tool for parents and teachers that provides an independent learning opportunity for students by listening to their voice and giving them immediate feedback to let them know if they have correctly identified the word they are trying to learn.
The app comes with the common word lists used by teachers in the classroom, making it convenient to use for parents at home and teachers in the classroom. In addition to flashcards, it also provides a hear-and-touch mode and a hear-and-type mode using an on-screen simplified computer keyboard. Say It Sight Words does not contain advertisements or require in-app purchases.
Boys struggle the most when it comes to early literacy – the apps “outer space” theme lends itself to that audience, though not to the point where girls wont find it engaging as well.
Developer Scot Woodyard explained, “We developed Say It Sight Words because it is what we wanted for our kids. We wanted something that we could use with our children and something our children could use independently. The latter was what was really missing from the apps we looked at – nothing we found provided a level of interaction or feedback to an early reader that came close to what working with a parent or student could. Unfortunately, parents and teachers aren’t always available to work with student one-on-one. So, we asked ourselves – how could we re-create the same experience?”
