Socially Speaking App for Social Skills Building in Young Children with Autism and Special Needs, by Socially Speaking LLC,  is a wonderful app targeted to teachers and speech-language pathologists of preschool and early elementary children.  The layout is very simple and pleasing to the eye. A child’s photo can be taken and a list of team members can be listed as well as behaviors to modify as well as long term goals. This can be emailed to other members on a team and/or added to a child’s individual education plan.   There is then a more detailed page, covering a preschool assessment as well as a definition of the behavior which is very helpful.   Age expectations of each behavior are included.  The PDF that can be emailed is technical, but clear, with great explanations to keep team members consistent as well as having a great overall plan for everyone to follow.  While this is a very specific app, it will be very helpful for team members working with these particular students and I also see how this could be modified for keeping track of behaviors for older children.  It is really difficult to find special education apps and this one hits the mark.  This is a great app and is $9.99 in the App store.

From the Developer: This App is both an evaluation of play and social skills in youngsters with Autism and special needs, and also a  lesson plan template for treatment goals/materials.  In addition, this App is geared for EVERY member of the IEP team: parents, teachers, SLPs, OTs, social workers, and psychologists (all types were included in my focus group when testing my App:) who can then sit down and “speak the same language”. In fact, I have had parents bring my App to the doctor’s office to make sure that everyone is on the same page”! This App works together with the child’s IEP in that it not only lets you take a photo of the child but the materials to be used as well, for a truly individualized educational plan!  Very good to know, thanks Penina!
