iTooch Elementary School

NEWteacherwithappsiTooch Elementary School, by eduPad, has hit another home run, and this time it's a grand slam! They have combined age groups and content to give this app an incredible shelf-life. The app is free to download and nine titles can be tried out before buying any in-app purchases, which are available for each topic. We reviewed iTooch MATH Grade 5 and found that it was a "terrific app that covers a lot of ground concept-wise and shouldn’t be limited to just fifth graders."  eduPad has a great, user-friendly format and an awesome layout with a chalkboard that can be easily accessed by touching the chalk. Another swipe of an arrow and help, with whatever specific topic you are working on, appears. These lesson summaries are concise, succinct, and very easy to follow.  Their apps combine a no-frills approach to content, while still providing the user with an outstanding learning and FUN experience. The iTooch mascot is adorable and keeps kids on task with lots of silly antics. He gets worried and impatient if you are taking too long, he fishes, he dozes, and eventually turns into a cute skeleton or a stone statue with cobwebs. But he is always available for help, touch him and a complete lesson summary on a separate screen is provided. When the question is answered correctly you are rewarded with drum-rolls, cheers, thumbs up, dancing and lots more surprises.  After a round of practice, the mascot lets you know that he is wondering if you want to take the test. One of the most impressive features is the variety of questions and answers; you might encounter a true-false,  open answer, type in a word or number, multiple choice or be given a calculator- you never know what to expect and it keeps kids on their toes and increases the learning opportunities. Questions contain text, images, sounds, hints, detailed answers, and settings for difficulty, allowed time, and points. Now to get to the nitty gritty: With more than 18,000 exercises, iTooch Elementary is, by far, the largest collection of educational activities based on the US National Common Core Standards on the App Store. It covers Math, Language Arts and Science curricula for Grades 3 to 5, and Health for Grade 5.  This incredible curriculum is completely comprehensive and always presented in an engaging way. We love that is has a challenging edge. The activities are grouped into chapters, and chapters are grouped into themes.  Questions contain text, images, sounds, hints, detailed answers, graphs, and features like difficulty, allowed time, and the earning of points. A lesson summary is provided for each chapter which can be a useful review tool, games can be played in random or sequential mode. Navigation is easy and there is a parameter page with options for grading choices and the child's progress can be monitored on the app's homepage.  For incentive, a leader board has been included and social learning takes place through the Apple Game Center making it all the more enticing for the students to play. A little competition can be a good thing. There are 500 levels to complete and 35 achievements that can be unlocked. Talk about shelf-life and hours and hours of learning FUN, you'll find it here with iTooch, their slogan perfectly states, Give your students an unfair advantage! P.S. What a wonderful program for home-schoolers, all the curriculum is right at your fingertips!
