Multiple Meanings Library, by Virtual Speech Center, will be a great addition to the app library for both speech therapists and teachers. Created by the Virtual Speech Center this is a targeted intervention to help students strengthen their understanding of vocabulary and meanings of words. This app has a great age range from 5-15.
It is very difficult to find applications that teach meanings to help students that are weak in oral language skills. The tracking system for each student is very effective in letting teachers know what the student does and does not know. There are several ways to customize learning, including picking the individual words to study, as well as one or up to five activities. The activities that can be chosen are auditory bombardment, picture identification, fill-ins, and definitions. One of the activities is make-up sentences, where the student can record sentences guided by the words the teacher has selected. The instructions are verbal, as well as the answer choices.
The best feature of this program is the reporting features. Two types of reports can be viewed or emailed, which is perfect for tracking IEP goals. The choices are the amount of time spent or the particular activity attempted. Settings are available for disabling sound, auto scoring, whether to select multiple activities, tracking correct and incorrect responses and individualizing the number of correct responses each student needs. This app is $9.99 and will be of great value to speech-language therapists.
