Ranching and Reading

NEWteacherwithappsRanching and Reading, by eSkills Learning and Dr. Marti Dryk is their first iBook endeavor geared to help children with reading comprehension and vocabulary skills, as well as test taking practices. What makes this app so wonderful for the classroom is that it has the same passage available with the same content, on three different reading levels. This makes differentiation a snap! The book consists of 3 Fiction and 3 paired non-fiction passages, written on 3 Levels of Reading Difficulty. The reading levels range from 3.7 to 7.0. The lowest reading level passages have been modified for special education students and have fewer questions. The iBook is based on the Common Core Standards and gives plenty of test-taking practice and hones skills in both comprehension and vocabulary building. If we had this option of three different reading levels covering the same passages and the same content, the conundrum of differentiation would be negated.

Each passage is followed by a series of reading comprehension and vocabulary questions. The questions align with the CCSS (Common Core State Standards). At the end of each quiz, a Score Report is generated that can be emailed to the teacher. The student will then be able to review the quiz to see which answers were correct and which were incorrect.

Each iRead iTest passage is meant to help the student read, think, and assess. There are no easy answers. This challenges the student to choose the BEST answer.
