It’s important to note, iPads and other mobile devices are only as good as the content on them. Therefore, now more than ever, we need to bring attention to the developers who deliver exceptional educational products to the market. TWA Certified apps and products have withstood intensive field-testing with kids and are both teacher and child approved. Teachers With Apps is known as a reliable, honest resource for Educational App Discovery. We know which apps work with students and which don't, as every app we review is field-tested by teachers and students before we write a review. TWA is dedicated to the idea that quality mobile educational applications are the tools of the future, however, they need to be used responsibly. Remember, all apps are not created equal.
Congratulations and Welcome to the TWA Certification Program:

Boo is a smart frog friend who invites children to practice speech sounds in a fun and engaging environment. This app is designed to entice spontaneous repetition of individual speech sounds and simple syllables. At the same time, Boo emphasizes the extremely paramount concept of phonological awareness by showing what actions happen in the mouth during articulation. One very cool feature is that you can decide how many times Boo repeats a sound by toggling between the 1, 3, or 5 dice buttons. The app is developed by a talented and certified Speech-Language Pathologist who knows what tools are needed for therapists and parents to help their children. The child can use the app all by themselves, together in a small collaborate group, or with an adult. When the child simultaneously uses multiple senses (vision and hearing) to imitate and repeat different sounds, it becomes much easier to overcome obstacles and improve articulation skills.
Teach your children the joys of learning algebra with Hands-On Equations! This IOS, Android, Kindle and Windows app takes advantage of the mobile device's visual and touch features to demystify complex algebraic concepts. Equations such as 4x + 3 = 3x + 9 and 2(2x + 1) = 3x + 9 become child's play. The original Hands-On Equations program, using physical game pieces, has already helped more than a million students gain confidence with algebra. Now that same, proven method is available virtually in the palm of your hand. In Lesson 1, the student mentally tries to figure out the value of the pawn that makes both sides balance by using reasoning or a guess-and-check strategy. The game pieces do not move in this first lesson. In Lesson 2, the student places the game pieces unto the image of the balance scale to represent both sides of the abstract equation. In Lesson 3, the student uses "legal moves" with the pawns to simplify and solve for the unknown x. Watch a short, helpful video by Dr. Borenson, the inventor of Hands-On Equations, as he encourages young students that algebra is fun and easy to master. More Information Here.
Zid Zid is a new app introducing a unique way to learn languages for schools and families! What most impressed TWA right off the bat was the stunning visual art/design created by one of the developers. The app is also well thought out and the format is easy to follow. It includes bilingual storybooks, songs, and games, along with short video clips to help students stay engaged. The best part is that it's not only fun and interactive, but it also helps children bond with others, as it is made to be shared. Another notable feature is that the app supplies brilliant activities both within the game, and extension activities for extended play after screentime. All of Zid Zid's game-play is centered around the five senses, which in and of itself, fosters deeper learning and retention of new knowledge. Play-based learning and positive interactions with children are an important part of Zid Zid's philosophy, development and success. Get started and help raise smart global kids by empowering preschool children to learn other languages together with their teachers and parents. Review Coming Soon.
This stellar app is a great mathematics resource for early learners or special needs students. It provides a visual approach to solving problems using the 100 grid in order to show students the fastest steps needed to solve equations. The hundred board framework basically gives students access to "seeing" the process that one would normally envision in their head. It doesn't automatically give you the answer, but rather requires one to think in numerical terms. Quantity, number recognition, number meaning, and the four operations are all incorporated into this visual tool to help students grasp and master the math concepts presented. Math Facts To 100 app is a cool tool that lets you scaffold learning goals into manageable targets to fit your learner’s profile. Read Full Review Here
This app is another fun way to learn math for children aged 4 to 8. Math concepts are taught through baking cookies and counting them every step of the way. It’s just like having your own private tutor/chef helping, encouraging, and reviewing a real-life math scenario. Youngsters can quickly learn the concept of addition and subtraction, as they help the baker make cookies and solve simple equations. The app features six games for each operation along with a “duel” mode that brings about friendly competition by having players play against one another (or against parents or teachers). The app has been developed in co-operation with teachers, children, and leading researchers. It definitely shows that an educator has been involved in the creation process! Math Bakery1 has been carefully tested in early education schools and children have swiftly shown significant improvement.
To salute first-rate apps and digital products, we award outstanding apps in the digital space that go above and beyond excellent the honor of placing our TWA Certification Badge on their media materials.
