World Factbook Visual Edition contains four different sections for users to explore: Browse, Search, Graphs, and Maps.
In the Browse section, World Factbook Visual Edition displays a 2D map of the world with the names of each continent and ocean listed below. Users may tap on specific names or the map itself to view a fact page with more data and details on their selection. Each selection contains additional information including an introduction, its location, dozens of comparison graphs, and flag, as applicable.
In the Graphs & Statistics section, World Factbook Visual Edition presents over 75 different statistics that can be viewed visually on a global map or in a graph format. Some examples of statistics provided for data comparison include Fertility Rates, Unemployment Rates, Public Debt, and Military Expenditures. All statistics are organized by the following topics:
* People and Society
World Factbook Visual Edition contains a total of 28 world and regional maps. Each continent displays both a political map outlining its state and national boundaries and a physical map that shows the physical landscape of the area. Users can also view maps of the World, the Arctic region, the Antarctic region, and the World Oceans. World Factbook also provides a map that explains the different global time zones.
"I have been a researcher of algorithm visualization at the University of Tampere where I designed educational applications that made complex algorithms more accessible to computer science students," says Esa Helttula, founder of iDevBooks. "These applications showed me how important it is to visualize data. The original CIA Factbook has all of the data in a text format. This app is my way to make this unique resource more accessible to adults and kids."
