YogiPlay And Teachers With Apps Join Forces To Promote Higher Educational Standards In Learning Apps For Kids
Partnership to drive industry and consumers dialog as parents demand greater app quality and benefits.
Let me begin by saying that at YogiPlay, we really appreciate Teachers With Apps (TWA). The founders are super cool, and we love their vision and commitment to learning.
We also believe that TWA’s mission of elevating the consumer conversation related to “quality transparency in learning apps for children” is spot on.
YogiPlay, a new personalized recommendation service that empowers parents to quickly find the best learning apps for their kids, announced a new partnership with the preeminent educational apps discovery destination, Teachers With Apps (TWA).
Co-founded by teachers, Jayne Clare (Special Education) and Anne Rachel (Early Childhood), with a vision for the future of mobile learning, TWA’s mission is to help students, parents, educators, and administrators wade through the vast number of “educational” apps being introduced on a daily basis.
Since 2009, Jayne and Anne have had their fingers on the pulse of the educational app scene and have successfully set themselves apart by field-testing, with a cross-section of students/kids, both in and out of the school setting, every app featured on their site.
“Teachers With Apps has been on at the forefront of assessing learning apps for educational quality and value,” said Jayne Clare, co-founder of TWA. “When we connected with the YogiPlay team and learned that we shared a similar mission – to elevate the conversation around learning quality in apps – it only made sense to combine our interests and efforts.”
TWA’s co-founder Anne Rachel further remarked, “the more people we get involved in the conversations around quality standards for mobile learning, the greater our chances are of influencing developers to set their standards higher. Right now most consumers are in the dark, so a partnership between TWA and YogiPlay will help shine a light on this important concern.”
Known for providing parents with insight related to their child’s “in-app” learning progress, YogiPlay recently announced a new, educator-approved app rating system called, the YogiMeter. The YogiMeter is based on a “developmental” framework that evaluates learning apps on their engagement value and educational quality. The YogiMeter will provide parents with the information they need to select high-quality educational apps for their children and to guide developers in creating apps with top-quality learning design.
Currently, YogiPlay’s educators have reviewed more than 600 kid apps for iPhones, iPads, Nooks, Kindles and Android devices, with more reviews in this new system added every day.
“At YogiPlay, it’s our belief that there should be an industry-wide dialog related to quality standards for children’s learning apps. Consumers need clear guidance when it comes to finding apps that can provide real learning benefits.” Said Cedric Sellin, co-founder, and CEO of YogiPlay. “We’re excited to join forces with TWA as we share the same mission of helping consumers to find the best quality learning apps on the market today.”
